guess where abstinence-only education is taught

There are a few statistical problems with those maps. First it covers all teenagers 15-19. Of course 18-19 year old also happen to adults and the states in red also happen to have some of the highest marriage rates among 18-19 year olds and oddly enough married couples tend to have children. (Now we may argue that this habit might not be the best in terms of long term economic planning, but married couples having children is certainly not an issue of lack of sex education).Further this is of birth rate not pregnancy rate. Based on just knowledge of keeping up with the news I would suspect that the red states have a lower teen abortion rate (I can only find average abortion rates, not separated out by age…if anyone has that please let me know)…the argument that sex education works better would be dependent on pregnancy rate, not birth rate, and since we can assume the states that came in lower probably have higher teen abortion rates the average pregnancy rate is probably more level between the states. This map would only be relevant if it showed out of wedlock teen pregnancy rates. But it doesn’t. In at least two ways it skews the numbers to make it say something it does not. Try again liberals."There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." —Mark Twain
